Give a flower to Our Lady of Lourdes

Throughout the month of May, the month of Mary, pilgrims are invited to take part in creating a very special crown. Not a crown of gold, but a crown of flowers. Each flower placed becomes a prayer, an intention, a thank you.

The Sanctuary is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the canonical coronation of the statue of Our Lady of Lourdes, an honour bestowed by the Pope on very rare occasions. This tradition of the Church encourages the devotion of the faithful to renew their trust and love for the one they invoke as a mother. 

Yellow carnations will thus surround the statue of the crowned Virgin, recalling the golden roses that appeared at Mary’s feet during her encounters with Bernadette. Through this simple gesture, everyone can take part in this outpouring of popular piety.

To place a flower is to offer a prayer. It is to entrust an intention, to say thank you, or simply to be present
